Summer 2008 - School Projects
  • Allatoona High School and Pickett’s Mill Elementary
    This project consists of the following improvements: SR92 at Cheatham Road - realignment of intersection and addition of turn lanes; Cheatham Road at Old Kemp Road - intersection realignment and SR92 at school driveway and Pickett’s Mill Place – installation of a traffic signal. The contract, valued at $940,000, was awarded to Baldwin Paving Company, Inc.


  • Awtrey Middle School
    This project consists improving access to the school by widening Nowlin Road from Old Highway 41 to the Awtrey Middle School bus entrance. The contract, valued at $540,000, was awarded to American Contractors, Inc.


  • (Woodlawn Drive) at Dickerson Middle
    Woodlawn Drive can expect multiple improvements consisting of connecting sidewalk gaps and significant lane adjustments to improve access into Dickerson Middle School. Road widening will be a further benefit to Woodlawn Drive as the entire length between Lower Roswell Road to Johnson Ferry Road will be widened. Completion of this project is planned for late 2008.


  • Harmony Leland Elementary
    This project, which will bid in July 2008, consists of adding right and left turns as well as the addition of sidewalk on Dodgen Road. Current project cost estimate is $500,000.


  • LaBelle Elementary School
    This project consists of the addition of curb, gutter and sidewalk along the east side of Olive Springs Road between Larose Circle and Cerice Circle and the addition of sidewalk along Larose Circle and Cerice Circle east of Olive Springs Road. The contract, valued at $364,000, was awarded to D&H Construction Company, Inc.


  • Murdock Elementary School
    This project consists of widening of Murdock Road in front of Murdock Elementary School and includes the addition of a left turn lane and extension of a right turn lane into the school to improve access. The contract, valued at $430,000, was awarded to American Contractors, Inc.


  • Pine Mountain Middle and Hayes Elementary School
    This project, which will be awarded mid-May 2008, will add right turn lanes at Kennesaw Due West Road at Pine Mountain Circle. The construction contract is estimated to be valued at $240,000.


  • Pitner Elementary School
    This project consists of extending a right turn lane into Pitner Elementary School along Wade Green Road. Additional work will add median, curb, gutter, sidewalk and drainage improvements. The contract, valued at $300,000, was awarded to D&H Construction Company, Inc.


  • Shallowford Falls Elementary School
    This project consists of realignment of the roadway and reconstruction of the driveway into the school and includes sidewalk, curb, gutter and drainage improvements. The contract, valued at $180,000, was awarded to Butch Thompson Enterprises, Inc.


  • Varner Elementary School
    This project consists of alignment and sight distance improvements on Gaydon Road at the entrance to Varner Elementary School. Additional work will add curb, gutter, sidewalk, and drainage improvements and the addition of a left turn lane at the school entrance. The contract, valued at $400,000, was awarded to American Contractors, Inc.



Summer 2008 - Bridges Projects
  • Bells Ferry Road at Noonday Creek Tributary:
    American Contractors, Inc. was awarded a contract of $750,000 for the replacement of a culvert on Bells Ferry Road at Noonday Creek Tributary. This project will replace the deteriorated concrete culvert with a new reinforced concrete culvert and restore 0.17 miles of two-lane roadway. Curb, gutter, and sidewalk will also be added the entire length of the project. Click here to view the location map.


  • Collins Boulevard Bridge over Buttermilk Creek
    Rogers Bridge Company, Inc. was awarded a contract of $800,000 for replacement of Collins Boulevard Bridge over Buttermilk Creek. This project consists of replacing the existing single-span steel bridge at Collins Boulevard over Buttermilk Creek with a new single-span concrete bridge. There is an onsite temporary detour that will be removed after new bridge is complete. Click here to view the location map.


  • Garrett Road Bridge over Powder Springs Creek
    Tidwell Construction Company was awarded a contract of $1 M for the replacement of the Garrett Road Bridge over Powder Springs Creek. This project consists of replacing the existing three-span steel bridge with a new three-span concrete bridge and to improve the roadway curve adjacent to the bridge to meet a 35-mph design speed.   • South Hurt Road over Concord Creek
    E. R. Snell Contractor, Inc. was awarded a contract of $824,000 to replace a deficient culvert on South Hurt Road. The existing culvert over Concord Creek will be replaced with a concrete culvert. The project will also include a hill cut to achieve adequate stopping sight distance for the South Hurt Road/Hill House Road intersection. Click here to view the location map.


  • Oglesby Road Bridge over Powder Springs Creek
    Tanner Contracting, Inc. was awarded a contract of just over $1M for the replacement of the Oglesby Road Bridge over Powder Springs Creek. The project consists of replacing two bridges on Oglesby Road over Powder Springs Creek. Click here to view the location map.


  • Post Oak Tritt Road from Murdock Road to the Fulton County Line
    This $6.7 M project was awarded to C.W. Matthews Contracting Co., Inc. and consists of widening the existing travel lanes and shoulders as well as leveling hilly sections of the road. The bridge over Harmony Grove Creek (near McPherson Road) will be replaced with a culvert while school is out this summer. The second bridge, located over Piney Grove Creek (between Rocky Springs Drive and Tritt Springs Trace), is scheduled to be replaced by a new structure, which includes a pedestrian sidewalk, during the school summer holiday of 2009.   • Hiram-Lithia Springs Road Bridge over Sweetwater Creek
    The contract for Hiram-Lithia Springs Road Bridge over Sweetwater Creek will be awarded in May 2008. Project costs are estimated at $1.2 M and consist of replacing the existing structurally deficient bridge. New bridge construction will occur parallel to the existing bridge requiring no road closure.
